![]() ![]() Home Constructed with SIPs Survives:TornadoMac and Kim Chesley researched products before building their two story home in Sumner County, Tennessee. R-Control SIPs promised a quieter, energy efficient, more durable home, and it was.At 2:00 AM, November 10th, 2002, a loud horrific wind noise woke them from their sleep. In one big heaving event, the house was lifted, shifted and then set down suddenly. The R-Control SIP house had been buffeted by tornado winds, confirmed by the National Weather Service to be over 200 miles an hour. The R-Control SIP house held strongly together. So strong in fact, that the house stood up to the damaging winds, while the cement block foundation failed. The only damage to the house was a few loose roof shingles and two broken windows. EarthquakesJanuary 1995 - One of Japan’s deadliest earthquakes hit Kobe, killing more than 5,000 people and injuring thousands. The 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit the city of 1.5 million people, located 280 miles west of Tokyo. Entire blocks of buildings were reduced to rubble and roadways and rails systems were twisted.Prior to the 1995 earthquake, six homes using R-Control SIP components were built in the Kobe area. All the homes were located within miles of the quake’s epicenter. All the homes stood solidly against the force of the quake. Hurricane ProtectionDunes Club Condos SIP ProjectAfter two hurricanes hit Florida, the existing roofs, insulation and related structural components were severely damaged at the Dunes Club. All three of the two story buildings needed extensive repair. R-Control Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) made with a Foam-Control EPS with Perform Guard termite resistant core were chosen for the roof. The SIPs will provide the structural strength needed in a area where tropical storms and high winds are frequent. The SIPs also provide exceptional insulation value resulting in an energy efficient cool attic design. “R-Control Panels were very practical for this application and were installed economically as well as expediently...AMC has no reservations whatseover in using R-Control Panels in future jobs.” -Anderson Moore Construction Corp. |
